Autism Evaluations

What is autism?

Every child and young adult experiences the world in a unique way. When differences in communication, social connection, or sensory processing raise questions about autism, an evaluation can provide clarity and understanding. My goal is not simply to provide a label, but to help you better understand your child’s strengths, challenges, and support needs.

Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental difference that influences how a person communicates, relates to others, and processes everyday experiences. Some individuals with autism are highly independent and verbal, while others may need more support with daily routines and regulating their behaviors and emotions.  An evaluation is an opportunity to see the whole person, beyond stereotypes or surface behaviors.

My Evaluation Approach

I use evidence-based tools to assess for autism in children, teens, and young adults. Each evaluation is personalized, drawing on your child’s developmental history, communication style, and current needs to create a comprehensive picture.

During the evaluation, I look closely at:

  • Medical history and review of milestones

  • Social communication and interaction across different settings (e.g., home, school)

  • Behavior patterns across different settings (e.g., home, school)

  • Sensory experiences across different settings (e.g., home, school)

  • Cognitive strengths and areas of vulnerability

  • Common co-occurring concerns, including anxiety, ADHD, and academic challenges
